Halloween is right around the corner and there’s no better time for treats.

Sure, you have Halloween candy, but that gets old fast. It’s the same thing every year. But there are many different ways you can be creative with your Halloween treats. Incorporate your Halloween candy into the dessert or make a spooky surprise. Ghosts, black cats, skulls, this festive list of irresistible Halloween treats has it all.

Here are 10 of our favorite desserts.

1. Frightful Festive Cookies

This is one of the simplest recipes on the list! Believe it or not, these are just sugar cookies with colored icing and decorative sugars.

This recipe assumes a party; it makes 42 servings! But you can scale it down depending on the crowd.

Here are step-by-step instructions, broken down into 13 steps.

  1. Preheat the oven to 350º F.
  2. Coat baking sheet(s) with cooking spray.
  3. Knead the dough for about 10 to 15 minutes or until smooth. It shouldn’t take you any more than 15 minutes.
  4. Divide the dough into manageable pieces (thirds, fourths, fifths) and roll it to a ¼” thickness.
  5. Cut out your Halloween shapes with a cookie cutter.
  6. Bake for 10 to 12 minutes or until golden brown.
  7. Make decorative icing. Divide into separate bowls, depending on how many colors you want to use.
  8. Empty half of the icing into a small bag.
  9. Thin out the other half in the bowl with one teaspoon of water to thin it out. Add water as needed. Put this thin icing in a small piping bag too.
  10. The thick icing is for outlining your cookies, while the thin icing fills in the outlined areas. Decorate your Halloween cookies however you like.
  11. Add some more color to your cookies with decorative sugars, if you want.
  12. Allow the cookies to dry for about one hour.
  13. Add any desired decorative patterns with the icing onto the dry cookies.

2. Freaky Brownie Pop Eyeballs

The next dessert on this list is from the same source. They sure know what they are doing!

Think of these spooky delights as eyeball cake pops!

There are quite a few steps to make these eyeballs; we’ll give you a condensed version below.

  1. Place eyeballs on the cooling rack, above a baking sheet with parchment paper. This will catch any icing that falls.
  2. Mix 6 tsp of water and 3 tsp of meringue powder to make your icing. Blend it for about 10 minutes.
  3. Add water until the icing is a pourable consistency.
  4. Pour icing over brownie pops and let dry at room temperature for about one hour.
  5. Make the veins.
  6. Make the irises.
  7. Make the pupils.
  8. Coat a lollipop stick with some icing and insert it through the bottom of the eyeball to finish your cake pop.

This Halloween treat will surely spook friends and family.

3. Spooky Strawberries

If you want to make a treat that’s a little lower maintenance, these spooky strawberries are just for you.

All you need is a white chocolate or vanilla coating, chocolate chips, and fresh strawberries!

Simply dip the strawberries fully into the white coating, let them dry for about 30 minutes, and then apply the chocolate chips as eyes and the mouth!

4. Black Cat Cookies

Who knew you could bring life to Nutter Butter cookies? These Halloween treats are a quick and easy recipe that anyone can make!

Ingredients - Black Cat Cookies

Simply melt some chocolate (use black candy melts to make a spooky black cat), submerge your cookies, let them dry on some wax paper, and decorate away!

5. Sweet Swirl Cookies – Halloween Edition

These creative cookies are made by rolling the dough over itself and then slicing the roll into equal pieces to make cookies.

To really evoke the Halloween spirit, the most important part of decorating is the sugar. This cook used orange and purple; what combination suits you the best?

6. Party Pumpkin Rice Krispie Treats

These pumpkins are pretty cute, don’t you think? They’re not a lot of work to make either.

These Halloween Rice Krispie treats are made with peanut butter, but you can also go without the peanut butter – whatever you prefer!

7. Make Your Own Halloween Marshmallows

A marshmallow by itself is pretty boring, but why not add some color? Orange and yellow perhaps?

If you’re hesitating because candy corn is not your favorite, don’t worry. Believe it or not, this won’t taste like candy corn. The orange and yellow are in fact colored chocolate candy melts.

Simply dip the marshmallows into the melted chocolate, let it cool, and then repeat!

8. More Marshmallow Goodness

If you’re not a fan of the candy corn look, you can dip your marshmallow in melted milk chocolate and add sprinkles for a more traditional look.

The black plastic lollipop sticks are a nice touch, too!

9. Wicked Witch Apples

Caramel apples are delicious, but how can you make them scream Halloween? Black food coloring, of course! You can make your own ‘black caramel’ coating with corn syrup and sugar. Just add the food coloring, and you’re set to spook your guests!

10. Lovely Loaded Halloween Brownies

These are quite the Halloween treat, aren’t they? This recipe is one of our more deluxe Halloween desserts, for the more ambitious cooks out there. But if you put the time in, you won’t regret the result!

With a chocolate base, orange cream cheese middle, and chocolate chip and Oreo toppings, you’ll get a little bit of everything with this delicious Halloween recipe.

Check out the full recipe and list of ingredients here.

What did you think of these 10 Halloween treats? I can’t wait to get into the kitchen and try these out. With the exception of the cake pop eyeballs and loaded brownies, these recipes are incredibly easy to whip up in under 30 minutes. The brownies and cake pops are not difficult, but they’ll likely take a little more experience and artistry to nail. So, if you like the challenge, try those out!

But with these more straightforward Halloween desserts, you can even grab the kids and make a nice morning or afternoon project out of it. I recommend the candy corn marshmallows or strawberries. They’re so easy just 1) dip and 2) decorate!

Once they’re done, they can eat what they’ve made as a reward! And you’ll cap off the night with trick-or-treating. Just don’t let them eat too much candy!

Hopefully, you now see that Halloween desserts do not have to be limited to Butterfinger, Twix, Skittles, and the like. There are plenty of creative ways to tackle Halloween desserts.
