What You Will Need To Make 2 Cups Worth Of All-Natural Multi-Surface Cleaner

  • A cup of distilled water
  • A cup of white or distilled vinegar (not malt)
  • Twenty drops of tea tree oil
  • Half a squeezed lemon, or twenty drops of lemon essential oil, or 5 teaspoons worth of bottled lemon juice
  • An empty spray bottle

How To Make And Use The Multi-Surface Cleaner

Add the one cup of vinegar, followed by the tea tree oil and lemon to the spray bottle.

Once all the ingredients have been added to the distilled water, tighten the lid and shake to mix well. It is now ready to be used.

To use the natural multi-surface cleaner, spray onto the surface and wipe it away with a damp (not wet) microfiber cloth. You can also use a dry paper towel.

If the surface does not do well under damp conditions, use a dry microfiber cloth only. Always remember to wipe the surface once sprayed.

How To Store The All-Natural Multi-Surface Cleaner

There is no doubt that you will not use the full two cups worth when giving the surfaces in your home a clean. For this reason, it is good to know that this homemade cleaning agent can be stored.

All you will need to do is make sure to put it into a cool and dark place, like you would the other cleaning products. In fact, you can keep them all together.

When you get around to using the cleaner again, you may find that the ingredients have separated slightly. This is natural and does not mean anything has gone bad. Just shake the bottle and get to cleaning!

The ingredients will mix again and will be ready to be used.

Why Use A Natural Multi-Surface Cleaner?

There are many reasons why you might choose to use an all-natural multi-surface cleaner. The major reason is that you might not want to use harsh chemicals somewhere like the kitchen.

While chemicals can affect pets and young children, as well as yourself, you may be worried about having the chemicals around food, or somewhere your pet pooch or child could pick up the bottle.

You also may be worried about how the chemicals will react with certain surfaces. Not all chemicals will work on stainless steel, and they may even cause marks on the likes of glass and wood.

You may also want to create your own multi-surface cleaner because you do not have the chemical variety to hand. While this does happen – it is easy to run out of – you may end up using the all natural version full-time.

Lastly, you may want to save some money. Making your own multi-surface cleaner is much cheaper per every two cups made than any chemical cleaner. You are also using ingredients that you already might have to hand in the home.

How Does Lemon Juice Help To Clean?

Lemon juice has long been a good natural cleaner due to its antibacterial properties and lower pH level. This makes it ideal to kill off bad bacteria in the home, as well as not causing any damage to the likes of wood and other materials.

It also smells really nice and works well alongside the likes of vinegar which has a really strong and familiar scent.

When it comes to lemon, there are three different types to try: freshly squeezed lemon, lemon juice in a bottle, and lemon essential oil. They all work great, however, we would always recommend naturally squeezed lemon juice.

How Does Vinegar Help To Clean?

Speaking of vinegar, it is often used in home cleaning due to the fact it includes acetic acid. This is the organic colorless compound that gives vinegar its sour smell and taste that everyone is very familiar with.

It also works as a fantastic disinfectant and can be used to clean mold. In fact, you can use vinegar mixed in water as a natural spray to use on the bathroom tiles after a shower to keep mold at bay.

However, when cleaning the home always use white or distilled vinegar. If you only have malt vinegar to hand, then you may want to add in extra lemon juice and tea tree oil. Malt vinegar is not suitable to clean with!

How Does Tea Tree Oil Help To Clean?

Tea tree oil is similar to vinegar, as it also disinfects surfaces. However, unlike vinegar which has a strong and sour smell, tea tree oil has its own familiar scent.

Mixing both tea tree oil and vinegar gives the cleaning power of your at-home cleaner a double whammy of germ-fighting goodness.

Tea tree oil is also great to use on harder surfaces, again, in the same way that vinegar is.
