There are several different types of Macedonian food. It is influenced by Mediterranean and Middle Eastern food. When it comes to Macedonian food, you’ll be hard-pressed to find something you don’t like.

One of the most famous Macedonian dishes is Tavche Gravche, or Tavče Gravče. It’s a white bean dish which includes onions, red pepper, garlic, paprika, and several other spices. This dish sits in the oven for about an hour.

Traditionally, this dish was cooked in clay dishes, but it’s unlikely you have one sitting in your pantry. Instead, go with an oven-safe pot, like cast iron or stainless steel.

Macedonian food also draws some influence from Greece; they have a delicious dish called Musaka, which is similar to a meat lasagna in America.

This recipe includes paprika, ground beef, cumin, tomato sauce, yogurt, chubritsa and a few other ingredients. You can see that the Macedonians really love their spices!

We’ve seen paprika in both of the dishes above. If you’re a lover of paprika, you have to try out Macedonian food. They even have a paste made of pureed paprika that tastes great along with any meat or chicken: Ajvar. Ajvar is a thick sauce made from red bell peppers (the primary ingredient of paprika) and a little bit of garlic. Check it out here!

Desserts!

Chocolate Lovers, This one’s for You

One dessert Macedonians love is bombici – or “mini bombs.” These are basically bite-size chocolate balls. Several recipes include cocoa powder, dates, almonds, and chocolate chips. In the image below, this delicious dessert is grazed with shredded coconut. So good!

Baklava…for your Sweet Tooth!

Continuing the theme of Greek influence, we have baklava, a sweet, flaky treat. It is a pastry that has an inner filling consisting of walnuts, bread crumbs, and cinnamon. This dish is often served with a simple sugary syrup.

This is a dish you may have had before, especially if you have been to Greece.

Be careful with these desserts; it’s easy to get addicted. But if you love sugar, you won’t be disappointed!
