How much does it cost to install my Range Hood?

One common question that is asked is “how much should I expect to pay to have my range hood installed?” And here is the best answer that will cover the broadest number of Range Hood or Vent Hood Installation cost questions. Plan on about $200 to $500 depending on the complexity and the of installation. This amount is only for the labor cost of installing a new Vent Hood and does not include parts, ductwork addition or modification, or electrical work. On average you can plan on paying about $85 per hour plus a trip fee ranging between $50 and $75 to install your new Vent Hood or Range Hood.

If you want to break this down into groups of installation here are some specific hours and posted times for our specific models.

Most Undercabinet Range Hood models require between 1.5 hours and 2.5 hours of installation labor depending on the size and the number of supports required. Generally the larger the Range Hood the more time allowed for the installation labor time. A typical 30” undercabinet range hood with 900 cfm and a single 7” to 8” blower outlet duct will be allowed 1.5 hours of labor time and can easily be completed by most homeowners in that amount of time. Many homeowners, in today’s high performance kitchens, will place a large Undercabinet Range Hood on the wall and place large chimney covers extending up to the ceiling. These estimates do not include these large Chimney Cover pieces. Please note that these estimates assume that ductwork is existing and properly placed and that electrical power is already in the proper location.

Typical Wall Mounted Range Hood models that fit an 8’-9’ Ceiling will require between 1.5 and 2 hours of installation time. These average times can vary by model but as a rule these models are generally the easiest and least expensive to install. The typical Wall Mounted Range Hood will include a main control unit that houses the local blower and the lights and will include the filtering method. Once the main control unit is mounted to the wall the ductwork is connected and the ductwork cover or what is commonly called the “Chimney” of the range hood is installed to cover the ductwork. Most Wall Mounted Range Hood models can be easily installed by most homeowners with only a few simple tools.

Typical Island Range Hood models are the most difficult to install and will require the most installation time. Plan on at least 1.5 to 2 hours for the smaller models and in some cases you will need at least 3-4 hours and an additional person to help you with the larger Island Range Hood models. Our advice is to look for an installation video for your Island Range Hood. If you cannot find your exact model look for similar models and judge for yourself if you think you can install the Island Range Hood on your own. In many cases you can save money on your Island Range Hood Installation by helping the contractor when it comes time to hang the unit. This is generally the only time that a second pair of hands is needed to help lift, mount and secure the new Vent Hood. In most cases, the average “do it yourself” homeowner can tackle an Island Range Hood installation in a matter of a few hours.
