We want to make your super bowl party extra delicious this year, debuting our very own cast iron pizza from our kitchen to yours.

This pizza is what dreams are made of. The deep-dish style, high crust pizza is sure to please your family and friends. A crunchy crust paired with a soft center, covered in cheese….we’re drooling over ourselves here!

Before we jump in, here are a few things to keep in mind.

This recipe requires high heat and heating your pan before you actually make the pizza. The right temperature is important.

We’ll be making this recipe with a 12-inch cast iron pan. You can of course use whatever pan size you have available or use more dough to create a deeper deep dish pizza. But you’ll need to adjust your dough size and cooking time to accommodate the change in size.

Let’s get started.

Cast Iron Skillet Pizza Recipe - Pizza on cutting board

Ingredients

  • 1 lb pizza dough (either homemade or store-bought)
  • ¾ cup pizza sauce
  • Toppings
    • Meat Lovers Pizza
      • Mozzarella cheese
      • Pepperoni
      • Salami
      • Meatball
      • Bacon
      • Ham
    • 4 Cheese Pizza – ensure equal parts. Make it as cheesy as you want!
      • Mozzarella
      • Gorgonzola
      • Fontina
      • Parmigiano
    • Classic Pizza
      • Mozzarella cheese
      • Parmesan cheese
      • A few basil leaves

Directions

  1. Preheat your oven to 500 degrees F. Once preheated, place your cast iron skillet in the oven for 5 minutes.
  2. While the pan heats up, use a rolling pin or your hands to stretch your pizza to 12 or 13 inches.
  3. Carefully take the skillet out of the oven and place it on a cooling rack. Sprinkle the bottom with cornmeal. Then, carefully stretch the pizza dough into the pan, so the edges go up the sides. (Careful! The pan is hot.)
  4. Place your pan and dough in the oven on the middle rack. Bake for 2-3 minutes or until the dough bubbles.
  5. Remove the skillet from the oven and spread a thin layer of pizza sauce over the dough.
  6. Top with cheese and your toppings of choice.  Sprinkle Parmesan cheese over the top if you’d like.
  7. Place the skillet in the back of the oven on the middle rack. Bake for 11-12 minutes or until the pizza is golden brown. Slice and serve hot!

Serve With

For Super Bowl Sunday, the possibilities are endless. Here are a few delicious foods you can serve with your cast iron pizza.

Appetizers

Nachos

For pregame, nachos make the best appetizer! Top those bad boys with lots of cheese, your favorite meat (taco meat for me), jalapenos, and the spiciest salsa.

Spinach Dip, Artichoke Dip, Chili con Carne, Green Chile Dip

The dips are essential – here are a few of our office’s favorites! Bring out the corn chips, Doritos, Lays, and the rest of them.

Main Meal

Wings

Serve ‘em hot, serve ‘em with barbecue sauce. As long as you have wings, it’s a true Super Bowl party. Crockpot wings are fantastic. Cook them at the same time as the pizza, then toss them in the oven to broil or bake for 2-3 minutes on high. Match with celery, carrots, and bleu cheese. YUM!

Mozzarella Sticks

You can never have enough cheese, right? Stick these in the air fryer right before your pizza is done cooking.

Vegetable or Fruit Plate

It’s always the last thing left to eat, but it’s a staple in Super Bowl foods. Pick up a plate at your local grocery store, and “be that guy”!

Hot Dogs and Sliders

I might catch some heat for suggesting these are essential sandwiches (are hot dogs sandwiches??), and it’s deserved. These are two items you can’t forget. Go with one, go with both, it’s time to stuff ourselves!

Dessert

For dessert, a good fudgy brownie or cookie with ice cream is a game changer. We’ve got a yummy cast iron cookie recipe.  Make this earlier in the day so you can prepare your pizza, and heat up the pizza on a regular baking pan when it’s time to eat!

Orange Fluff Salad

Never had this before? Try it. We’ll let this article take over the explanation – they nailed it!

How’d your pizza turn out? We hope it’s delicious. If you’re still looking for another side, check out the article below. Thanks for reading!
